I am a postdoctoral researcher working on information security in the Emerging Networks strand of the Centre for Telecommunications Value-chain Research, Department of Computer Science, University of Dublin, Trinity College in Ireland. My research interests are mainly in the areas of computer and network security, and applied cryptography. Specifically, my current research focuses on cryptographic key management and flexible authorization mechanisms, the investigation of incorporating economic considerations into the design of network security protocols, and the trading of access rights using policy-driven mechanisms. I am a member of the ACM, the IEEE, the IACR and USENIX.

I received my Ph.D. from the Department of Computer Science, University of Dublin, Trinity College under the supervision of Professor Donal O'Mahony at the Networks and Telecommunications Research Group. I completed my studies in exactly three years (from October 2002 to October 2005) and my work focused on flexible access control mechanisms and security policy specification and enforcement for pervasive computing. During that time I was a scholar of the Irish government under the Embark Initiative, operated by the Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and Technology (IRCSET).

My complete curriculum vitae, including references, is available upon request.

You can find a list of my publications and talks here.

I am available for consulting services and seminars. Feel free to contact me with specific details.

I was involved in the program committee of the ACM SAC 2008 TRECK track - the 4th Trust, Recommendations, Evidence and other Collaboration Know-how (TRECK) track of the 23rd ACM Symposium on Applied Computing.

In the past I have reviewed papers for the IEEE Security & Privacy magazine, the IEEE Transactions on Dependable and Secure Computing, the IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, the IEEE Communications magazine, the IEEE Wireless Communications magazine, the IEEE Pervasive Computing magazine, the IEEE MultiMedia magazine, the IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials journal, the International Journal of Network Security, the International Journal on Computers and Electrical Engineering (Elsevier Ltd.), the Journal of Network and Systems Management, the 14th European Wireless Conference 2008 (EW'2008), the 50th Annual IEEE Global Telecommunications Conference - Ad hoc and Sensor Networking Symposium 2007 (Globecom'07 - ASNS), the 49th Annual IEEE Global Telecommunications Conference - Wireless Communications and Networking 2006 (Globecom'06 - WirelessComm), the 11th IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communications 2006 (ISCC'06) and the 2nd IEEE International Symposium on Wireless Communications Systems 2005 (ISWCS'05).

My past teaching schedule can be found here.

I have undertaken several software projects during the years, mainly for my own personal satisfaction. Some of them, as well as some other of my code fragments, can be found here.

Several years ago, along with Georgios Kargiotakis and Kyriakos Oikonomakos, I started the BSD.gr project. The main goal was to promote and support the use of 4.4BSD-based systems among Greek users. The project is now on indefinite hiatus.

So, I admit that I am a Unix geek. I use OpenBSD, NetBSD and Linux. My OpenBSD resources page contains my experiences regarding running OpenBSD on my laptops, several OpenBSD ports that I no longer actively maintain, as well as other related information.

If you want to contact me, my preferred method is email. Please note that I welcome PGP signed and/or encrypted email even for unimportant correspondence. Also, you may be interested in my Advogato weblog.
